TL;DR

  • Skagen Falster Gen 6 will be wearing Wear OS 3.
  • A factory reset will be required for the update.
  • It will receive a stock Wear OS 3 version without any special features.

Android Central reports that some Reddit users were able to update their Skagen Falster Gen 6 watches today to Wear OS 3. Later, the outlet confirmed the reports by updating a few Skagen Falster Gen 6 units.

According to the report, Skagen owners may be receiving a stock version Wear OS 3. This would be identical to the Pixel Watch’s Wear OS 3 version, but without the Pixel-exclusive frills. Additionally, it seems the update is stripping away Google Assistant, which makes sense given it’s not supported by Wear OS 3 devices with Snapdragon chips. However, Fossil says it’s working with Google to bring it back.

The update is optional, so before you begin installing, beware that updating requires you to factory reset the watch — something that will cause you to lose all of your data. This will be notified to you and it will also provide instructions on how to update.

Something else you’ll need to do is download the new Skagen Smartwatches app. Android Central notes that this app is nearly identical to the Fossil Smartwatches App and allows you to set up your devices and pair them.

If you don’t want to wait for the notification, you can just go to the settings and head for the system updates section (Settings > System > About > System updates). It should bring up the update, but if it doesn’t, you keep checking.

Fossil began updating its Gen 6 watches with Wear OS 3 shortly after the launch the Fossil Gen 6 wellness edition. It was expected that the Wear OS 3 treatment would be given to the Fossil Gen 6, Michael Kors Gen 6 and Skagen Falster Gen 6. The Skagen update took longer than the rest of our lineup.
