NYCFC has signed Justin Haak, a homegrown midfielder, to a new three year contract, the club announced Wednesday.

Haak’s new contract keeps him at the club through 2025 MLS season. NYCFC holds an option on 2026. The 21-year old was out of contract after the 2022 season. But Haak impressed enough that he decided to stay and continue his development as a 2021 MLS Cup champion.

Haak declared in an official statement, “I call New York my home and it is an honor for me to be here to represent this city.”

“It’s always been a goal of mine to continue my development here with the club that has given me everything. Dave deserves my gratitude. [Lee, NYCFC sporting director] I am grateful to everyone for believing in my abilities. I am proud of the rich heritage we are creating.

Haak, a United States under-20 international, has made 27 senior appearances for NYCFC in his senior debut in 2019, which included playing in the MLS Cup Playoffs.

The Cityzens begin their 2023 MLS campaign on February 25th away from Nashville SC.
